Meet Stefan, who has been living and working in Ukraine since 2019, and who was shot on duty a year ago.
Stefan and his friend Emil Filtenborg dreamt about trying foreign reporting. They moved to Ukraine’s capital Kyiv back in 2019, with little money, few contacts - and a whole region under-covered in Danish and other Western media.
Their work included business and other niches, but also reporting from war-torn Azerbaijan and Armenia, dangerous Belarus and the civil war in Ukraine’s Donbas region.
Then Russia invaded Ukraine a year ago. A couple of days later, they were shot and wounded doing their work close to the frontline. They were rescued out of the warzone, and via Moldova to the hospital in Aarhus. Emil is still recovering, Stefan is back in Kyiv.
Stefan will talk about his daily work in a country at war, but also about his carreer path to getting there – with some tips and advice about working abroad and dealing with risk. The session is online on a video link from Kyiv.
